Without A Song

"Without A Song" is the debut recording by Paul Marinaro, a Chicago-based jazz artist dubbed as having “one of the most plush baritones in Chicago - or just about anywhere else” by Howard Reich in The Chicago Tribune. The concept album features songs in tribute to and inspired by Paul's dad, Joseph Marinaro, whose dream it was to be a professional singer. Opting instead to focus on raising his large and loving family, Joe’s passion for music never waned and was passed on to the last of his ten children.

For this album, Paul wanted to honor his father’s dream, acknowledge his musical influence, and incorporate his earliest memories of music and songs. It is a meticulously culled, exciting, and varied selection of songs, on which Paul is accompanied by an array of Chicago’s finest musicians.

Since its release in June 2013, the album has received widespread critical acclaim, been featured on national radio programming, and has been a best seller, already in its second pressing. "Without a Song" was recently named one of the "Best of 2013" by critic Howard Reich in the Chicago Tribune.

This portfolio highlights many of the cuts from that recording, featuring Paul live in concert and in the studio, and includes a trailer in which Paul discusses his concept album.

Paul’s career, his musical journey, and the recording of this tribute album are the subject of a forthcoming documentary, “You Will Be My Music”.

Pieces of Dreams

"Pieces of Dreams" will be a bonus track on Paul Marinaro's forthcoming album, "Without a Song". It also serves as the theme for a film clip in the forthcoming documentary "You Will Be My Music", tracing the creation of Paul's album. In this clip, Paul describes how, amazingly, as a boy of 5, he rescued his father's old recordings from the trash. Those acetates served as inspiration for Paul's album project to pay tribute to his Dad, and were used in part on the album itself.
